Jumping Head First into Summer

Memorial Day means the beginning of Summer to me, and my family.  How about you?

I’m not going to wait until the middle of June to start enjoying the feeling and joy of Summer.  In fact this year I am pledging to jump head first into Summer and enjoy it to the extreme.  Already we have enjoyed some library passes to the Peabody Essex Museum, planted our flowers, headed to the Discovery Museum, and planted the vegetable garden and that was just this Memorial Day weekend.  Man, I need a nap.

So what does it mean to jump head first into the Summer?

this kid knows how to jump- do you?

It means that I am going to make this Summer fun and treasure the memories we make.  I am going to try not to be cranky due to the heat, but embrace it.  I am going to try to enjoy the dusk and camping outside, even with the bugs nibbling my feet.  I already have a lot planned- a trip up to New Hampshire, maybe Storyland, lots of trips to the beach and a LOT of playing in our backyard which is tons of fun all on its own- I learned last year that lemonade, bubbles and a sprinkler pretty much make a toddler and parent’s day.

In the Fall our family will change to a family of 4 as we welcome our next child into the world.  I know it will be wonderful and that we are only growing our love and fun times, but I can’t help but start to miss our family of 3 (well 3.5 if you count our dog).

We have had a great family of 3 and gone on so many adventures together.  As the baby inside me grows I am constantly reminded of my baby; I mean little boy in front of me and how  much I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy wonderful him. We now have lengthy chats about the world around us….and like me he wants to go, go, go and play, play, play.  The other day as we drove in the car to head to the library and then the car wash, just an errand kind of day, he said the sweetest thing he could ever say to me.

Mom I love going on adventures with you.

My heart burst with happiness and pride.  I love going on adventures with you too Tommy and Brian and even you Skyfox.  Little baby, I am sure you will also jump right into this active and fun family when you learn to jump that is.

Everyone who reads I hope you enjoy the unofficial start to summer and a big thank you to all the veterans and their families on this Memorial Day!

I love this post. It says, embrace the moment. I love that you are cherishing these last months as a family of three. The family of four will be amazing too, but it will never be the exact same as the family of three. Embrace your summer and enjoy it, and then the fall will bring something new and amazing to embrace as well.

It was great to read this as we are well into summer now. I am going to try and make use of the community pool this year. We just went today and my 2 year old enjoyed it more than the last time we went about 2 weeks ago. You really do need to savor the moments.

Savoring the moments and trying not to over book us too!! We really have such limited access to a pool around here, I wish we had a community pool. We invited ourselves to our friends pool tonight… that’s one way to have a swim.
