I made pretty in pink deviled eggs for my sister-in-laws baby shower. As you might have guessed she is having a baby girl!
The eggs were a hit and super easy to make. I even enlisted the help from my three year old son in the process.
Here he is stirring the red food coloring
You could really do any color and or multiple colors, whatever works for the occasion. I found the idea on pinterest around April, as a clever dish for the Easter holiday. Here is how I made my Pretty in Pink Deviled Eggs:
Boil 12 eggs for 15 minutes- remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes
Cool eggs under cold water and peel the shells off
Wait for the eggs to cool down (about 10-15 minutes)
Cut in half and scoop out the yolks into a bowl
Place the egg halves into the food coloring. I used a glass casserole dish which I filled with water and added three squirts of the red food coloring gel. Make sure the eggs are submerged in the liquid and let them sit for an hour to create a pink egg.
In the meantime while the eggs are changing color. Mix the egg yolk with 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon spicy mustard, 1 tablespoon sugar, and a dash of salt. Mash together and whip it up into a fluffy mixture. Fill a plastic baggy with the mixture and cut a small whole at the bottom.
Once the eggs are pink you can arrange them on a platter and use the plastic baggy to squeeze a bit size of the eggs into each colored egg.
Visually pretty and tasty at the same time!
